THE DJ:
With a career spanning 2 decades Andy Roberts ranks right up there as one of the top House Music Producers and DJ’s in Canada. His journey began in 1991 with his first gig of note playing alongside Roger Sanchez @ The Great Hall aka 1087 Queen West. But it was the next gig that proved to be a game changer for Andy, New Years Eve 1990/91 at Toronto's legendary Concert Hall with Fingers Inc (Larry Heard/Robert Owens) , the net result of that gig was an invitation from Mitch Winthrop to be a regular guest on his weekly Friday Night Radio Show" The Rhythm Method" on CHRY 105.5 , alongside other regulars, one of which was Nick Holder. This opportunity led to Andy being a fixture, Djing many events, in Toronto’s Late Nite warehouse scene alongside Rhythm Method DJ's Mitch Winthrop and Dave Campbell as well as fellow Toronto Legends Dino & Terry as such places as the Actors Lab, 23 Hop, Mr Pong's, 180 Spadina and 10 Oxford St . In the early-mid 90's, Toronto's Rave scene was reaching critical mass, leading Andy to become a mainstay in the playing 2-3 events a weekend, curating many a house room along with other notables of that scene. By the mid-late 90's the scene was shifting again, and everything house gravitated to the Clubs. Making the transition to nightclubs, in the peak of the late 90's Andy was holding down 4 residencies a week Apothecary-Monday, System-Thursdays, Element-Fridays,Mad Bar-Saturdays, which culminated with his 4 year residency at his legendary Hard and Soul Sunday weekly from 1997-2001. This was in addition to regular appearances at other local nightclubs, and gigs across Canada and the Northern US. What followed chapter in Andy's career was a successful run of events produced under the Mixed Signals banner, from the mid 2000's to the present Over the course of his Dj Career, Andy has headlined along some of the Industry's Finest local and international talent, and still holds his own to this day. He also linked up with the Stickmen to release one of his best selling efforts, “Mr. Roberts Neighborhood", on their highly successful Aquarius label which received regular airplay on BBC’s Radio 1 for six months. Following the demise of Vinyl, Andy Kept quiet for a couple of years on the production front while he was planning his next move, Mixed Signals Music, which has been the home to his productions, including the well received "Noodle" (Originally slated for release on Objectivity) , Motivacao "Don't Forget" Safari Dubs, and Soulenoid remixes.
